Not all drivers who need a DOT physical have a commercial driver’s license. Different types of CDLs allow drivers to operate specific types of commercial vehicles.
Anyone with a CDL needs a DOT physical to continue to drive their commercial vehicle.
When you schedule your appointment, the team at Floral Park Medical, P.C., and Cross Island Medical provides a list of items you need to bring to your DOT physical exam. The items may include:
If you have diabetes, the team requests you bring in a copy of your most recent hemoglobin A1C test. For drivers with a heart condition, the team requests you bring in a note from your cardiologist outlining the details of your heart health history.
Dr. Himanshu Pandya conducts a comprehensive medical exam when you come in for a DOT physical. After reviewing your medical history and checking your vitals, Dr. Pandya performs a complete physical exam and checks all body systems.
Your DOT physical may also include a urinalysis, which Dr. Pandya uses to screen for kidney problems or diabetes.
Once your physical exam is complete, Dr. Pandya gives you a DOT medical card, which is valid for 24 months. He may, however, validate your DOT medical card for less than 24 months if he has concerns about a medical condition that he wants to monitor, such as high blood pressure.
